I’m learning Japanese, i watch anime, read and draw manga, and i’ve gotten really interested in the history side of the culture. anything anime/manga that could interest me?
I have never heard about Meiji era’s culture of manga that can interest you.
I’m sorry.
The mangas sartirizing the movement of Japanese society in Meiji is famous.
Such mangas is usually introduced by the book of Japanese history.
For example, Shigenobu Okuma who was prime minister of Japan were sartirized a bear in manga at Meiji era [Because In Japan, a bear means "Kuma"].
At the previous era of Meiji, the end of Edo period, the book drawing about Japan then edited by a British named Charles Wirgman began to be published.
It is famous because of many books of Japanese history.
And Norakuro is famous as the manga at the era before WW2.
The story was that a black dog named Norakuro had a good achievement as a Japanese soldier[In this manga's world, animals are personified as human being].
It was loved by many Japanese children before WW2.
But that manga may have some expression of distinctions.
And there were some films at the era of WW2.
One of famous of these was Momotaro Umi no Shinpei[桃太郎 海の新兵 means "Momotaro the soldier of God in the sea"].
Momotaro was the famous classic story.
I don’t know and could never imagine how Momotaro was remade.
But this anime may have some expression of ditinctions too.
If you have a chance to watch it, please don’t get angry.
I’m sorry.
These are informations of the special mangas and anime of Japan before WW2 that I know and searched.
