Animals die in the name of Beauty

Many animals suffer and die needlessly in the name of beauty to ensure that injections of Botox used by millions of men and women around the world are safe.

This sad fact was discovered by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which urged the population to avoid Botox for cosmetic purposes until its manufacturer Allergan stop animal product testing.

"The HSUS recognizes that Botox has several medical purposes that are beneficial to man and uses should continue. But we are also aware that almost half of the drug is to improve beauty. Consumers need to know that animals are suffering and enduring horrible deaths for the sole satisfaction of human vanity. This simply has to stop, "said Dr. Martin Stephens, vice president for animal research issues of the HSUS.

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin type, a powerful poison that paralyzes muscles and temporarily smooths wrinkles when used in small quantities. Since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration U.S. for that purpose in 2002, Botox has become a very popular non-surgical procedure to remove wrinkles, crow's feet and wrinkles on the forehead.

In 2005, more than 3.2 million treatments Botox is made, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Only in 2003, Allergan earned $ 226 million in net sales of injections Botox.

But there is a dark side to all this. Before Botox is released to doctors, have to be tested for the correct power. This is done by testing questionable known as LD50 or Lethal Dose that kills 50 percent to 50 percent of the animals in the process. One hundred mice are used in the trial, although Allergan says it has reduced this number.

"This test involves giving mice a single injection of the product in its abdominal cavity and see if the animals die within 3-4 days. The mice are first assigned to one of several groups and each group a different strength of the product in order to estimate the force that kills half the target group. This position force (the LD50 value) is then considered a single "unit of Botox, from there, Allergan packages a number of units to a vial of human use, explained the HSUS.

"Of all the tests in animals, the conventional or classical LD50 is one of the most brutal. On the evidence of Botox, animals support different levels of muscular paralysis and suffer from impaired vision and dry mouth. The animals that die do suffocation, after their diaphragms become paralyzed, and who can no longer breathe. Those who do not die immediately may languish with varying degrees of paralysis before being slaughtered at the end of the test three to four days " The HSUS, said.

In addition, studies have shown that the LD50 test is unreliable and already in 2002, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, an organization international trade organization that produces guidelines for the assessment, stopped recommending this test. Unfortunately, Allergan continues to ignore this recommendation resulting in the death of many animals.

To prevent these cruel deaths, HSUS is to encourage people to stop using Botox for cosmetic purposes. To support his campaign turn to other alternatives such as Botox Dermaxin. This powerful cream can give you a natural facelift which is comparable to cosmetic injections. For more information, http://www.dermaxin.com go.
